Timing…. Why now?
I have asked myself this question on many occasions.
I worked in Banking for over 16 years. While this wasn’t a planned career path, I made the most of the opportunities I had. I got many qualifications, moved through different areas of the bank and worked with many amazing people as well as some challenging ones.
Through it all, I honed my skills and grew both personally and professionally with loads of exciting and truly joyful moments.
On the one hand, I wouldn’t trade any of it but on the other hand, I can’t help asking myself. ‘What would have been if I had figured out and pursued my purpose and passion all these years?’.
What would I have accomplished if I became organized sooner, facing my fears and tackling the insecurities that have kept me in my comfort zone?
As I asked myself, ‘why now?’, I took the time to think about the past two decades. I thought of the people I have met, my mistakes, the learnings and wisdom gleaned from others.
I realise my life is richer now and I have more to offer to the world. I know that instead of looking back, I’ve got to press forward, forge ahead and trust that now is a great time to start.
This is my ‘NOW’ and it’s not a moment too soon. I am maximising this opportunity which means there’s no time to waste or live in the past. There’s just about enough time to leverage on the past and springboard to my future.
I came across a phrase that says, ‘don’t look back unless you are going in that direction’. My plan is to keep my eyes on the direction I am going and that is forward, starting now.
What about you?
What direction are you currently facing and is it the direction you want to go? If not, now is the time to act and change your direction.
I’m a lifelong learner and as I share of my life with you, I want to learn from yours as well. Please use the comment box to let me know how you’re getting on and anything you would like me to touch on in my future posts.
Thank you for reading my post. See you next week.

I needed to work for my family but was lucky to have a career I enjoyed. Now, with lots of free time, I enjoy being a school governor which now means great responsibility. I also see the challenges children face in their home lives and how we can help to improve this is some way.
I know how lucky it is to be able to do what you wish.

Sandra, it’s a real blessing to be able to do what you truly want.

Yemi you are challenging me! I have to go back to continue my midwifery course, but the truth is- I don’t think it’s for me! I went into it as I wanted to give something back, and though it’s ok, a good career, I don’t have a passion for it. The yearning to write has stayed latent in me since my teenage years, yet I’ve done NOTHING but dream.. I just don’t even know.

Eruke, thanks for your comment. You can start the writing on the side and start to experience the pleasure of doing something you love on the side. In time, the rest will fall into place.

It is vital and important to be grateful for the past, the good, the bad and the ugly. We learn from the past to forge a better future. The future is always bright. It is a matter of perspective.
