Stop Waiting For A Great Day
Do you find that you are always waiting for a great day to be happy and you only see this happening in the future when certain conditions are met? It could be when you are in a different job, in a relationship, have no struggles, when your kids leave home or have a ‘healthy’ bank balance.
Have you ever caught yourself putting things off because you are waiting for a better time, day or even the best day? Are you constantly worried about that future or stuck on a past ‘best’ day or ‘season’ of your life?
If so, then it’s a great time to check out this quote by Ralph Waldo Emerson.
“Write it on your heart that everyday is the best day in the year.
He is rich who owns the day, and no one owns the day who allows it to be invaded with fret and anxiety.
Finish everyday and be done with it. You have done what you could. Some blunders and absurdities no doubt crept in. Forget them as soon as you can, tomorrow is a new day; begin it well and serenely, with too high a spirit to be encumbered with your old nonsense.
This new day is too dear with its hopes and invitations, to waste a moment on the yesterdays.”
This quote highlights some key lessons for me:
It’s all about making a choice – a choice that says everyday is the best day and a gift. This choice drives our attitude and approach to the day.
It will determine how we maximise the day and the things we go after. It’s a choice to take actions instead of fretting and a choice to not lose the day to mundane thoughts and silliness.
Do your best in each day and, ‘be done with it’, as Ralph puts it. In other words, don’t get hung up on the day. Live it as well as you can, strive for the things you want, get them done and learn the lessons that come with the day.
Mistakes will be made, so forgive yourself because you did what you could and even if you didn’t, hopefully you learnt the lessons which will make a difference if you take them on board. Put the past behind you and look ahead.
Give yourself a fresh start the next day. The new day has a new set of opportunities, blessings and lessons so embrace it in high spirits. Don’t waste the new opportunities, be determined not to repeat yesterday’s mistakes and be willing to embrace the new challenges.
Remember that your best day is always today and that is the only day you can completely count on having. Stop putting things off and start living your best life today.
For me this also applies to pursuing my passions, dreams, purpose or going after the things that I believe God wants for me. If I wait for life to be perfect, there will never be a right time or day to start.
There will be always be struggles in marriage, life, parenting and financial challenge. We all have to learn to strive despite all these conflicting pressures. Too many dreams and hopes have died with their owners but this doesn’t have to be us.
Today is a new day and we can choose not only to see it as the best day but see it as the best day to go after all that has been purposed and assigned to us. Have a great day.

Hi Sis,
Thank you once again for another great piece.
You have a way of knowing exactly what to write about.
Made a professional blunder and needed a reminder that mistakes happen but shouldn’t mar a beautiful day.
Thank you for reminding me to always make everyday count.
Have a fantastic week ahead.

Each new day is a gift that not everyone that had yesterday will have. That’s a lot to be thankful for.
Each new day is an opportunity to right the wrongs of the past and to position for a better future.
Each new day will come with fresh challenges.
Remember we all had yesterday, but not all have today.
Be grateful for a new day.
Thanks sis for your writings.

Each new day is a huge gift. Not all who had yesterday will have today as a gift.
A new day gives an opportunity to right the wrongs of the past. A new day is an opportunity to position for a better future. A new day is an opportunity to make a statement today. For example a new day is an opportunity to say sorry, thank you, I love you…..
A new day is an opportunity to touch a life, help the poor and needy.
There are many little things in life that make a lasting impression.
Each new day will come with fresh challenges, but also me a chance to do things differently.
Thanks for your writings sis
