Happy New Year and Happy New Decade
We are fast approaching the end of 2019 and preparing for the new year celebrations.
This isn’t just another new year, it’s also the start of a new decade and that makes it pretty special in my opinion. We get to think of not just the year but there’s a great opportunity to think with a decade in mind.
What do you want this new year to bring for you? How about the decade? Are your aspirations more of the same old things or do you want to go on an adventure?
Are there things you’ve always wanted to do but thought you didn’t have time for them. Let’s go back to square one and press replay. This replay can be for the year or for the next decade.
Does your replay involve dusting off a half baked dream and polishing it with a view to start again? Maybe it’s about going back to complete that degree that you’ve always regretted not finishing, perhaps it is finally to go for the career of your dreams or launch that business.
By the end of this new decade, we’ll be ten years older and the question is when you look back, what would your ten years look like? Will they be happy, productive and enhance your life and world? Or will you wonder where the decade went because everything has stayed the same?
Since you get to draft your narrative for the next ten years of your life, what will it be?
Decade of great health
If your narrative includes ending this new decade in great health, what do you need to start doing now? What does this look like in 2020, 2021 and up till 2029?
Your proposal must include foods and drinks you need to give up and exercises you need to take up. Finally you must be willing to implement this proposal of a lifestyle change to end the decade in great health.
Decade of joy and happiness
Maybe in this past decade, you’ve struggled to be joyful and happy. The question is why? What did you tie your happiness to? Were those things within your control? What did you miss out on while you were focusing on things outside of your control? What did you gain in the place of joy?
More importantly how determined are you to not let history repeat itself? Ending this new decade joyfully will start with a change of your mindset about the Source of joy and hope. Also it will require that you dissect your joy from things and people.
By now, we know that the new car, clothes, job or relationship doesn’t always equate to lasting joy or satisfaction. Quite often, it opens doors to even more pressures, so let’s go back to square one about joy and get things right.
Decade of success
What would a successful decade look like to you and in what areas of your life and relationships are you expecting to see this success? It’s time to make a list and draw up a plan to help you manifest this success.
Success cannot be manifested by thinking about it, rather it happens if we consistently take daily steps towards achieving it.
So picture your successful decade, draw or write it down in as much as details as possible. Define the actions and people that you need for the journey, consider what’s in it for them and pitch your plans until you get the support you need. Then crack on with making them happen.
Decade of Victory
What struggles have held you back this past year or decade and what do you need to overcome to make this next decade one of victory?
In this new decade, there may be people and places that you need to avoid. Also there will be self-talks and conversations with others that you need to stop.
There will be habits that must be broken such as procrastination, making excuses, not accepting responsibilities, being late, not being consistent or reliable and not keeping your promises.
Decade of Growth – personal or professional
Think back over the past decade, is your reaction or response to challenges, people, feedbacks and criticisms the same today as it was back six or seven years ago?
If so, one of your goals for this new decade must be growth which could be personal or professional.
It’s up to you what this new year and decade will look like. So what will it be? Thank you for reading and sharing my post.
Let’s make this the best year and decade ever. Happy New 2020!

Thank you Aunty Yemi for another great post.
Great questions , definitely seating on them to reflect .
I wasn’t deliberate about stepping into this passing decade, and that’s one thing that I’m definitely not repeating. I may have achieved something’s but I wasn’t deliberate about them, so I want to do things differently this time.
Like you said , By the end of this new decade, I’ll be ten years older and I want to be able to Look
Back to see considerable growth in my spiritual life, career, relationships, visions and life goals .

Hi Nneky. You are absolutely right. Many of us were not as intentional about this past decade but we are older and wiser so we must do better.
This new decade will be better but it starts with intentionality and being purposeful about our approach, choices and actions.
