Be A Star
I came across a poem that I used to gleefully recite as a child; then it was just for fun and held little meaning for me.
Reading it again as an adult, I was struck by the powerful messages in it and I wish I had got the messages sooner. This week’s post is inspired by the poem, “Twinkle, Twinkle little Star.”
As I re-read it again, I took away some messages:
We are more than face value
The average person will see the sun and the star as two very different things but in reality the sun is also a star; it just happens to be the star that is closest to earth and so is more visible.
The sun also happens to be an average sized star with many other stars up to 100 times larger.
How many of us see the distant and miniscule stars and compare them with the sun or value them the same? In the same way, how do you value yourself compared to others? What yardsticks are you using? Do you think you are comparing like for like?
The sun and the stars are all needed
The sun has a role to play and it plays it brilliantly during the day providing light and heat for those that need it. If the sun stayed the same through the night, many places and people will over heat or be unable to sleep.
This is a reminder to be yourself, be who you are created and meant to be and play your role brilliantly by discovering and fulfilling your purpose.
The star is important too
The star shines its light at night and this is appreciated by the night travelers otherwise everything would be pitch black. The star beautifies the night skies and gives people a thing of beauty to appreciate.
This is a reminder that you matter too – just as you are. Just because someone else is outshining you at a point in time, it doesn’t take away from your own brilliance. Figure out your place and shine your light.
The Star shows up and stays up until it’s time for the sun to come up
The star does not try to hold on to the place of the sun, rather it gives room for the sun to shine because it knows its own place and role is unique to it.
So it has no reason to vie for position or be envious of the sun. This encourages me to show up in my place, run my own race and make room for others.
Your audience awaits
Regardless of who you are, there will be those who will appreciate you and what you bring in to their lives. The sun is the closest star to our planet and by virtue of its location and size, it’s appreciated during the day.
But the stars are seen and appreciated in the night by the night owls and travelers. If you’ve ever had to walk home with the light of the stars as your only light, then you will appreciate the stars. Remember the stars play their roles when it looks like no one is watching.
Whether your role is centre stage or a supporting act, show up faithfully and be brilliant. That’s all anyone can ask of you. That is what your Creator asks of you – be who you were created to be and play your role without reservations or apologies.

These words “Whether your role is centre stage or a supporting act, show up faithfully and be brilliant.” Says everything .we all have our different roles to play, I can’t be a square peg in a round hole, it just won’t work! The sun can’t be jealous of the moon, their purposes are just totally different . May God help each and everyone of us step into the purposes He created us for and then turn on our inner light – Full blast!!
