Purposeful Me

Today’s Breaking News

We live in a world where there’s so much going on. The news media are constantly ‘breaking news’. And too often the news we hear are the negative ones that make us sigh and wonder what kind of world we’re living in.

This got me thinking about another kind of news – my kind of news that is truly worth breaking. So here are some headlines:

Grace is in town

I love a quote by Brene Brown which says, “Grace means that all of your mistakes now serve a purpose instead of shame.”

I am reminded today to receive the grace that is available to me, the grace that enables me to live the life I was designed and created to live. It is a grace that reminds me I am loved beyond measure, forgiven and accepted with no guilt or condemnation. It is the grace of God that says I have a seat at the table.

No one is getting out alive

You can either see this as a negative or positive headline, but I dare you to see it as a fantastic one. Let it motivate you to live your best life now, to go after your weird, wacky and scary dreams. Let it motivate you to live purposefully with every intention of making your life count and going out with a bang.

I came across a poster on Pinterest with the following inscription which sums it up. It says, “None of us are getting out of here alive, so please stop treating yourself as an afterthought. Eat the delicious food. Walk in the sunshine. Jump in the ocean. Say the truth that you’re carrying in your heart like a hidden treasure. Be silly. Be kind. Be weird. There’s no time for anything else”

It’s time to smile

I smiled today and got so much more back. On my way back from the gym, I spotted a neighbour who lives round the corner and he smiled and I smiled back.

This led to a ten minute conversation where I got to hear about his granddaughter getting into University and his ten month old great grandson. I also found out the amount of his first wage, the cost of his first and current house, told that I should go to the Cotswolds on holidays and so much more.

We got to be neighbourly, had some good laughs and be an example as people walked and drove past looking at two people who couldn’t be more different connecting and laughing.

Sales, Sales, Sales

The season is changing, leaves are starting to fall and I saw mince pies in the supermarket. That means sales are round the corner – sales motivated by change in season and collections, Christmas sales and new year sales.

As all the sales approach, I am reminded of the Swedish proverb which says, “He who buys what he does not need steals from himself.”

Love yourself

When I’m at the gym and feel like giving up, I remind myself it’s for my own good. When I’m tempted to eat what’s not good for me, I tell myself that I deserve better.

We deserve to be loved and that includes loving ourselves enough to make tough decisions and say no when it’s appropriate.

I was challenged by an inscription that says:

“Eat like you love yourself.

Move like you love yourself.

Speak like you love yourself.

Act like you love yourself.”

Just for laughs

Go watch a comedy show or be the comedy. Whatever it takes, just have a laugh. It’s cheaper than going to the doctor.

Here are a few phrases that put a smile on my face this week:

“In my defence, I was left unsupervised.”

“They burned the bridge, then ask why I don’t visit.”

“Every once in a while someone amazing comes into your life…. And here I am. You’re welcome.”

“I would lose weight but I don’t like losing”

“Know your worth. Then add Tax.”

“I haven’t lost my mind. Half of it wandered off and the other half went looking for it.”

“I can only please one person per day. Today is not your day. Tomorrow doesn’t look good either.”

Thanks for reading and sharing my post. Instead of letting others dictate what you listen to, it’s time to create your own ‘Breaking news’. Have a great week.

That’s the kind of “Breaking News” we need. It kept me smiling and reminded me of something that happened on my way from work on Thursday.

An elderly man honked as we slowed down at the traffic light. I rolled down my window, thinking he needed help with direction. He gave me unexpected words of encouragement, expressing the need to keep smiling and remain happy despite everything that’s going on in the country. We chatted until the lights turned green.

    Thanks as always, Yemi!
