Life Goes On

If there is anything that we all need to know, it is the fact that life goes on. We voluntarily go through some changes, some changes happen to us and some events feel like the end of the world but the reality is life goes on.

In the past week, I found out that one of my uncles lost his wife and in a few weeks, it will be the anniversary of my favourite uncle’s passing. There are some commonalities in both scenarios with the spouses dealing with situations that they believe or believed would break them.

The only difference is that one spouse has proved that life goes on and there’s hope. She has raised their children and their youngest just got married. The other person is still in a state of shock wondering how and if he would make it without his partner.

Coming back from Budapest recently, there was a medical emergency that resulted in our plane being diverted to Cologne. After dropping the patient in Cologne, the pilot announced we were continuing with our journey back to London. In that moment, life continued for the rest of us but the patient and her family were on my mind as I wondered how they fared through their ordeal.

That’s life and we all have to deal with. None of us could stay to lend our support even if we wanted to. The wheels of life were set in motion and they barred us from doing what we would have perhaps wanted to do which was to check on the patient and do whatever we could to help.

The long and short of it is that life goes on regardless of how tough the day, week or year has been.

A few weeks ago, people in the United Kingdom were hit with the news of the Queen’s passing. In those first few hours, everything came to a standstill and it felt as if life as we knew it would never go on. Fast forward a couple of weeks and a bit, and it is quickly becoming history. Life has started to go on with all the normal activities and stresses of life.

As I thought of what to write today, I came across a quote by Stephen Chobsky that sums up my thoughts so perfectly well and it says, “Things change. And friends leave. Life doesn’t stop for anybody.”

Life doesn’t stop for anybody. It doesn’t matter who you are, how much wealth you have or how influential you are, life will not stop for you. This is such a sobering thought in a world where too many act as though life revolves around them and others expect life to bow to them.

During the Queen’s funeral, the standout moment for me was when her sceptre, Orb and crown were taken off her coffin. In that moment, I realised that as beloved as she was, as powerful as she was, life was now going on without her as the symbols of her authority and sovereign power were removed.

The traditions were now calling the shots, the crown would now be available to someone else to use. Her house is now someone else’s to live in and in the not too distant future, for some of the younger folks, it could almost seem as though the mystic surrounding her life was all made up.

Today as we start a new week, we must remember that life goes on regardless. So before we throw all caution to the wind and disregard the rules, before we walk over other people or take advantage of them, before you abuse someone else, before you throw your weight and influence around, remember the world does not revolve around you and life won’t stop – not even for you.

Also before you give up on life because of your present situations, remember life will go on and the difficulties, challenges and hardships of today will make way for better days. A reassuring thought is that as life goes on, we get presented with new opportunities, miracles and blessings. So hang in there and wait for the better days.

Thanks for reading and sharing my post. Have a great week.
