With hours to go until Christmas day, let’s take a moment to remind ourselves of the true essence of Christmas which is about the Love that came down. It’s not just about presents under the tree or the sparkle of decorations; it’s about embracing what truly matters. In the hustle and bustle of the holiday season, we need to remember that true magic lies in connections; this is a time you can easily talk to strangers about the festivities. We have opportunities to ask people if they are all set for Christmas, banter over the supermarket queues or compliment them on their festive attires. People are more receptive to connections at this time and many want it.

This Christmas, let’s cherish the moments spent with loved ones but do more than that by committing to connect with total strangers. Whether it’s sharing laughter around the dinner table, engaging in heartfelt conversations, or creating lasting memories, the bonds we nurture are the most precious gifts of all.

Acts of Kindness and Giving Back

‘Purposeful Me’ embodies the spirit of generosity. This Christmas, let’s extend our hands in acts of kindness and giving back to our communities. Too many get given gifts they don’t really need so this year a lot of people I know have chosen to give to charities in the name of their loved ones.

Growing up in Nigeria, one of our family traditions was to make fried doughs called chin-chin which we gave to neighbours, customers, family members and guests. I associated Christmas with gratitude and generosity which was demonstrated through exchange of foods, drinks and gifts with the bonus being the cash gifts we got for being the messengers.

I love the power of traditions and the emotions they evoke. Whether it’s baking cookies with loved ones, decorating the tree with cherished ornaments, or participating in heart-warming rituals, these traditions weave a tapestry of warmth and nostalgia. Let’s create and uphold meaningful traditions that resonate with the core values of love, unity, and purpose.

While presents certainly add a sparkle to the holiday season, remember to prioritise mindful presence over presents.
