Be In The Know
Now and again, I hear a phrase that strikes a chord with me; one such phrase was ‘know your need’. I have been doing some research ahead of a purchase that I needed to make. For anything I buy from kitchen gadgets to computers, from phones, cameras to furniture, I always do extensive research listening to product reviews and reading feedbacks from previous customers.
Know Your Need
In the past week, as I listened to a reviewer go through the good and bad attributes of the product, he ended with the phrase, ‘know your need’ and that stuck with me. Every single purchase we make will meet some needs and not others.
Some mobile phones will have excellent cameras and miss the mark on some other specifications but if what you need most is the camera, knowing your need might mean the phone is good enough for you but not for others. And that knowledge can save you from spending money to buy a phone with functionalities that will be under or unused.
On a recent phone call to my cable provider, they kept listing things that didn’t matter to me offering me pointless deals but knowing my need meant I could say no to what would not serve me well.
Know Your Truth
We live in a very confused world in which right is the new wrong, orange is the new black and truth is now on a spectrum. Your truth can be defined for you or you can define your truth by ‘shining your eyes’ as they say in Nigerian parlance. People can sweet talk their ways into redefining what truth or reality is even when you can see the handwriting on the walls.
Knowing your truth starts with accepting yourself as a purposefully created human being with no need to prove yourself to anyone but you and your creator. Knowing your truth means not denying the realities before you and not letting the media or anyone else redefine what is glaring, obvious and blatant. Don’t be like the naked emperor who is lied to because everyone wants to dance to his tune.
Know The Truth
What is ‘The Truth’. Well the truth sets your free. The truth about a given situation sets you free to learn new lessons, correct course and take action. The truth realigns how you see yourself with how your creator sees you. The truth eliminates fear. I am who I was fearfully and wonderfully created to be, so I am not afraid to be me. I am unapologetically, unashamedly and unabashedly unique, blessed and skilled with an assignment and a mark to make.
Facing the truth is the hardest thing that many of us will ever have to do but it is something we must all do. People will tell us what we want to hear to make us feel good but the truth helps us to deal with the realities of any situation we face.
I once attended a Debt Charity fundraising event where many people shared the stories of their struggle with debt and their journeys to freedom. Every single one of them went through the denial phase where they did not want to know how much they owed and they refused to face their creditors. Many spoke about not opening their mails and not having a clue about what their overall debt was preferring to bury their heads in the sands.
Their journeys to freedom started the day they got help to face the truth about their finances with many finally seeing the scale of the problem, breathing a sigh of relief because it wasn’t as bad as they thought or seeing a way out with help from the charity.
This applies to addiction or even big changes like leaving an unfulfilled job or an abusive relationship. The journeys to freedom starts with acknowledging the truths and facts so actions can be taken.
As we start a new week, are you in the know? What steps do you need to take to regain your freedom? Thanks for reading and sharing my post. Please subscribe to get this directly in your inbox.
